Awnings For Homes

Sun awnings are a popular product for the home and have been around in the UK marketplace for around 15 years.

There are two main reasons why one would want a sun awning for their home. This is what will be discussed within this article.

Patio awnings are primarily designed to extend from the wall of your home, or even independent framework, to provide an area of shade to sit under in the summer months. Of course, if you have a sufficient angle on the awning then it is quite ok to use them during light showers as long as you ensure that water does not begin to pool on the fabric as this can quickly lead to damage.

Choosing a high quality patio awning will offer you excellent UV protection. This makes awnings an ideal solution for those with sensitive skin and ideal for children to play under. Having a cool retreat on a hot summer's day allows you to enjoy outdoor living without the unbearable heat of the sun beaming down on you.

Patio awnings can be made in many sizes. Commonly you will find awnings manufactured to a width of up to 5m and a projection of 3m though some awning specialists can accommodate sizes much larger than this.

The other primary function of a sun awning is to provide shade for a room. Some windows are particularly susceptible to the afternoon sun. This can quickly heat up a room and make it uncomfortable to sit in. The bright sunlight can often lead to one having to close the curtains. Carpet or furniture can quickly become damaged in these rooms if they are over exposed to intense sunshine.

With a sun awning you can extend your awning and block almost all of the suns heat and UV rays keeping the room cool and your furnishings protected. If you are out you can rely on a sun and wind sensor to bring your awning out if the sun gets intense and retract it if it gets too windy.

There are not many cheap awnings on the market. Some of these are not very good quality at all and do not offer the required protection. For the UK you really need something strong and robust to be able to remain out even if it is breezy. You need an aluminium frame so that it does not rust and remains strong for many years.  The fabric should have a coating to protect it from dirt build up.
