Autumn is only around the corner and provides us with one last opportunity to get the garden on order before mother natures freezes everything. Autumn is also a time when the leaves fall from the trees so getting rid of all this garden waste is often an annual chore.

A good garden bin is essential for disposing of garden waste but also there is another solution for not only getting rid of all this unwanted greenery but also a great way to feed the garden too – composting.

What is composting

Composting is quite simply a method or turning garden and household waste into nutrient rich plant-food that can be used to grow shrubs, flowers and vegetables.

It will not only feed plants and shrubs but also help keep your soil in good order ensuring that next years flowers and plants can grow healthily.

And composting is a great way of recycling preventing the need to throw so much waste into the bin where it will be taken to a landfill to rot.

How to compost

For composting you only need two things:

Almost anything can be composted. Not only the leaves and garden waste but all that food and kitchen scraps that normally gets thrown in the bin. Everything from potato peelings to old beans can be composted; even old newspapers can be.

Its a good idea to get a good mix of stuff to make the right compost. Compost has to naturally react so a mix of food scraps and garden waste will produce the best compost.

With a good composter its easy to do too; just throw your waste in the composter and let mother nature do the hard work.
